We parked the car by a very busy picnic spot where people were busy cooking on barbecues, but within a few minutes of leaving the car park we were by ourselves.

Following the signs we soon found the stone that marked the top of Haddington Hill, the county top of Buckinghamshire.

As the signs and the plaque also shows this is also the highest point of the Chilterns, unfortunately there were no views of the surrounding area.

As we headed out of Wendover Woods I spotted this trig point in the field next to the footpath we were following. Fortunately there was also a footpath across the field so I was able to legally gain access to it.

As we left Buckland Hoo we finally got some views of something other than trees. Here looking across the very flat Vale of Aylesbury.

Also in view was the ridge that takes in the distant Ivinghoe Beacon.

Heading around the edge of a field we get our first view of Pavis Wood.

Fox Lane soon turned into a bit of a squelchy experience, a result of the very wet summer we have been enjoying.

We briefly exited Pavis Wood to visit the corner of the road that marks the county top of Hertfordshire.

Back into Pavis Wood and we are now on the Ridgeway.

No chance of getting lost with this many signs to keep you heading in the right direction.

Heading back into Wendover Woods and we know that away to our left there are some good views, but the trees keep obscuring them.

Just before we reach the car park we come across a clearing with a view that probably takes in the other end of Wendover Woods.
